HISTORY

The Journal was founded in 1889 by Professor Angelo Celli as “Annali dell'Istituto d'Igiene Sperimentale dell'Università di Roma”; its name changed several times since then, as detailed in Former Denominations - becoming “Annali d'Igiene” under the direction of Prof G Sanarelli in 1914; “Nuovi Annali d'Igiene e Microbiologia” under the direction of Proffs V Puntoni, A Tizzano and SU D'Arca in 1949; and finally “Annali di Igiene : Medicina Preventiva e di Comunità” under the direction of Prof GM Fara in 1989; having been published with no interruptions for 127 years - it is therefore the oldest Italian scientific journal in the field of Public Health.

Its headquarters were housed since 1889 in the building of the former “Istituto d'Igiene Sperimentale” at Piazza del Viminale, and moved in 1936 to the new Campus of the University of Rome.
At present they are housed in the Sanarelli Building, the site of the Department of Public Health and Infectious Diseases - Piazzale Aldo Moro 5
